ESG & Student Housing - SHI726
Thursday Aug 10, 2023
Thursday Aug 10, 2023
ESG is impacting every industry and the student housing industry isn't exempt. But where is it headed? In the short term in the US, everyone is looking at the SEC's forthcoming Climate Disclosure Rule that came out last fall but has not been finalized due Supreme Court ruling between West Virginia and the EPA. But what's beyond that??? For that, we need to look at the UK's Net Zero initiative.
In this episode, Daniel Smith joins Wes as co-host to discuss sustainability efforts and where things are headed. Daniel is not only a student housing veteran with both development and operating experience, he is also the co-founder of Good Management Group which is a London-based consultancy firm that advises all types of companies regarding their ESG efforts. Daniel is also the managing director of Student Housing Consultancy. Additionally in this episode, we share a recent ShopTalk panel discussion on What's Ahead with ESG and Student Housing. The panel includes industry experts Jill Brosig from Harrison Street, and Chris Laughman and Madeline Robertson, both from Greystar.

What Does The Future Hold - SHI 719
Friday Apr 21, 2023
Friday Apr 21, 2023
Enrollment declines, artificial intelligence, political migration, leadership, and consolidation are likely the biggest factors impacting the student housing industry's future. Yet, no one is really talking about it outside of their own company. While attending the Interface Student Housing Conference in Austin TX a couple of weeks ago, SHI's CEO, Wesley Deese, took the opportunity to sit down with 5 executives from many of the industry's top management firms to get their perspectives on what the future holds for the industry and student housing operations. This episode includes the recording of that conversation with industry leaders, Dan Shoupe, Jenn Cassidy, Jessica Delis, Bryan Shelangoski, and Aryne Bailey.
Additionally, Wes sits down with special guest co-host, Mary Allen. Mary is the recipient of the 2023 Interface Scholarship provided by the W. Collective. Mary gives her feedback about her experience as a first-time conference attendee and her takeaways.
