In this episode Wes sits down with Brandon Smith, the VP of Operations and Development at The Tailwind Group based in Mankato, MN. Tailwind Group is a newer owner and operator within the PBSH space but has very organic and entrepreneurial roots dating back to the aftermath of 9/11. 2021 led to some significant growth with their foot print which allowed them to enter the coveted Top 25. Brandon shares his journey from switching gears as a financial advisor to taking on his first leasing position as a contractor to now leading a national student housing firm.
Willie Butler with Empower PMC joins as co-host for this episode and shares some of his insights on workforce shortages in the leasing office and getting serious about hiring and training your leasing team.

On July 1, 2020 the NCAA passed legislation to allow student athletes to receive monetary compensation for the use of their Name, Image, and Likeness or more commonly referred to as NIL. This has open up a world of opportunities for student athletes and it's also giving student housing providers a unique opportunity to hire student athletes to promote their community. But is it as easy as it sounds?
